FAQ

What does EFT stand for?

Emotional Freedom Techniques

What is EFT?

EFT is an energy therapy, some call it Energy Psychology and is similar to Acupuncture using the same acupressure points and energy meridians - but without the needles!

How does it work?

The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy systems. Negative emotional experiences disrupt the energy meridians that run through our body. The physical changes we feel from those disruptions, like fear or anxiety, become attached to the memory of that experience and affect the way we see the world…until we heal that disruption. By tapping on certain points, mainly on the face and hands and repeating relevant phrases, these disruptions can be smoothed out, and calmness follows.

What is Energy Psychology?

Energy Psychology addresses the relationship of our energy systems to emotion, behaviour and health. Taking into account that everything in our body is interconnected - Mind, Body & Spirit.

Do I have to Believe in it?

EFT will work whether you believe in it or not, many a sceptic has been surprised!

Does it take the memory away?

EFT will not change what happened in the past, the memory remains, but the emotional charge or reaction is removed.

Is it like Hypnosis?

No with hypnosis you are relaxed into a trance like state, with EFT you are fully awake.

Will it take pain away?

EFT can take pain away, particularly if it has an emotional origin. Because all parts of our body, mind & spirit are interconnected, emotions can cause physical reactions and pains and even illnesses

Will it cure an injury?

EFT will not cure an injury directly, but balancing our energy systems enhances the body’s natural healing abilities.

Does EFT work for Children?

EFT has been used with children for everything from anger, trauma and bedwetting to fears and phobias, behaviour problems, nail biting, nightmares, results of bullying, lack of confidence, learning enhancement and pain. Not surprisingly, many of these issues are the same as those reported by adults. Unresolved childhood issues do, of course, hang around for adulthood. Wouldn't it be nice to resolve them early? Children are very responsive to EFT and usually find it to be good fun! How many sessions? There is no set amount of sessions, often one session will bring about a satisfactory result, but sometimes when issues go deeper, further sessions may be required.

Is it a permanent cure?

EFT’s results are usually permanent, if the problem reappears, it may be because a different aspect of the original problem has shown up, which in turn can be addressed. It usually works well and the results are sometimes spectacular.  It often works where nothing else will.”

Can I use it on Myself?

When you have been taught the basics of EFT you can then use it to help yourself, friends and family. EFT continues to provide encouraging results, even with newcomers applying EFT to themselves. Some cases are more complex, however, and may require more detailed attention from an experienced EFT Practitioner.
